Ramp Capacity, Length & Load Height

This guide should help you gauge how long a ramp you require, so if you're in any doubt read the details below. If you still have questions after reading, feel free to give us a call. The crucial thing to know is your load height.

Load Height: this is the vertical measurement from the ground to where you rest the ramp onto.

Guide to the maximum load height is shown in the product description/table, please note the minimum Load Height will be 5% below the maximum height stated on the ramp, to calculate  use (maximum load height - 5% = minimum load height).

For vehicle ramps EU guidelines recommend that no ramps with a gradient greater than 30%  or 1:3.3 should be used. Essentially the load height x 3.3, gives you your ramp length. Furthermore no TUV Certified Ramp is designed to exceed this gradient. Going over this gradient is can cause accident, injury or death and may invalidate the warranty.

Please check the wheelbase measurement of the machine you are loading is suitable for the capacity the ramp can take based on the wheelbase measurement advised. To check your wheelbase, look at the vehicle from side view, the distance between the centre of front wheel and rear wheel (rim centre) is your wheelbase. For machines with an unbalanced weight distribution such as, scissors lifts, paving machinery, steel tracked machinery and machines with low ground clearance we would advise you contact us first, so we can check and advise on the most suitable solution.

For loading cars and other vehicles with either a) Low ground clearance b) Front and/or Rear overhang a gentler gradient is recommended (this will vary depending upon the vehicle). Please also note that most forklifts and pallet trucks are not built to be used on slopes. Please check the manual for the gradient information.

How do I identify what loading ramp I require? 

First you will need to check your load height, this is the vertical height from the ground to where the ramp will rest. This height identifies the required ramp length, all of our ramps state the maximum load height on the listing.

You also need to consider what you are loading and the maximum weight you are loading.

Which length ramp should I buy? 

You need to check your load height (the vertical height from the ground to where the ramp will rest) as this affects the length of ramp required. For loading motorbikes a maximum gradient of 30% is recommended. All of our products note the maximum load height for the ramp in question. How do the ramps connect to the vehicle?

The ramps use a rest on connection which is either red prongs or a solid lip (depending on model) which rests onto the surface you are loading onto. Straps are provided with our folding motorbike ramps which can be used to secure the ramps in place during loading. The motorbike ramps offer an angled foot to ensure they sit securely on the ground during loading. The rest on connection is suitable for flat bed vehicles such as transit vans and trailers, they can also be used to overcome steps.  

Are they lightweight?

Yes, all our folding ramps are lightweight and produced from aluminium, the weight of a single ramp is around 7.5kg - 9.5kg depending on your chosen ramp.

Can I buy a single ramp?

Yes, we offer single motorbike ramps, pairs and kits depending on your requirements. 

How grippy is the surface?

As grippy as we can make it without causing damage to tyres or excessive wear to the surface. We have a variety of surfaces available, including a mesh surface and cut-out grip system to allow you to choose a suitable surface for your requirements. If you plan to use in very wet or muddy conditions further grip might need to be added such as griptape or rubber covering. 

How wide are the motorcycle ramps? 

We have various widths available from 230mm - 440mm. If you wish to walk or ride your motorbike into your vehicle we do also provide a 3-piece motorbike ramp kit which is 1m wide in total. 

Why are the ramps curved?

The ramps are curved to improve ground clearance. 

What other items can be loaded on these ramps?

Our motorcycle ramps are regularly used as a pair to load quad bikes, ride on lawnmowers, garden machinery and ATVS. Please note these ramps are only designed for domestic use, for professional use please view our professional range.  

I have a professional gardening and landscaping business, are the folding loading ramps suitable?

No, the folding loading ramps are only designed for domestic use. If you are loading garden machinery for professional use please view our professional loading ramps. 

Can the folding motorbike ramps be used to overcome steps and kerbs? 

We would not recommend using our folding motorbike ramps for overcoming small heights such as as kerb as the foot of the ramp is angled for higher heights. This means the ramp will not rest securely on the ground during loading. For overcoming a step or kerb we would instead recommend viewing our kerb ramps. For higher heights, such as a set of stairs or steps which are circa 60cm high, the folding ramps can be used to overcome steps.

Which motorbike ramp offers the highest capacity?

Our most heavy duty motorbike ramps are the single wide loading ramp and motorbike ramp with support legs which offer a 680kg capacity.

What is the benefit of the motorcycle ramp kits? 

The motorbike ramp kit allows you to sit on your bike during loading and walk or ride the bike into your vehicle. The kit includes three ramps. 

Do you offer fixed van ramps for motorbikes? 

Yes we offer a range of fixed folding van ramps which can be used for loading motorbikes into vans. 

Can the folding motorbike ramps be used to load flight cases? 

No, these ramps are not suitable for loading flightcases or similar. The ramps cannot be used for loading items with a wheel width of 100mm or less. For loading flightcases, trolleys and similar we instead recommend viewing our van ramps. 

How do you push a motorcycle up a ramp? 

To load a motorbike into the van using a single ramp you walk along side the ramp, at ground level, whilst pushing the bike up the ramp. Alternatively you can purchase a motorcycle ramp kit which allows you to sit on the motorbike during loading with the motorbike on the central ramp and your feet on the outer ramps.

We ship all orders on a DAP (Delivered At Place) basis. This means your order will be delivered to your address, but any applicable customs duties, import taxes or clearance fees are the responsibility of the recipient. These fees will need to be paid to the courier before or on receipt of the goods. Where payment is required prior to delivery, the sooner any customs/VAT charges are paid to the courier/customs the quicker you will receive your goods. Please look out for emails or calls from the courier regarding these fees otherwise your goods may be returned to us.

We understand that in some instances, customers will need to return an item due to a change in circumstances, incorrect sizing or simply changing their mind. Here at The Ramp People we offer a 60 day money back guarantee on all purchases; however, there will be circumstances where a return is not possible. So as to remain transparent with our customers, we have detailed our returns policy below to answer any queries you may have about the process.

Here are the most common circumstances for returns and how we can help;

Change of mind, wrong size or unsuitable item

Sometimes an item is not what you imagined, it doesn’t fit or you just don’t need it any more. In these circumstances, we are happy to offer an exchange or a full refund, no quibble of course, if the item is returned in its original condition, including original packaging, and within 60 days from date of receipt. Please note, items which are advertised as 'built to order', or customised items are non-returnable and non-refundable.

Please take care when returning an order to us as all customers are in charge of the item’s return and covering the cost. We recommend you use a tracked, insured returns method so as to ensure a secure transit.

For an exchanged item, please make a note on the returns form that you wish to exchange the product or call us on +353 1 695 0520. We can deliver new items within our standard delivery policy. Unwanted items should be sent back to our address marked 'Returns Department'.

Item incorrect or damaged on arrival

Upon delivery, please do not sign for the goods unless you are happy with the condition of the product.

We pride ourselves on our excellent customer care and service delivery, however, if an unfortunate incident occurs where you believe you have been sent the wrong item please call us immediately on #353 1 695 0520.

For damaged items, please supply proof of damage with a photo and email it across to our customer support team at hello@theramppeople.co.uk. For any incorrect deliveries, we will always check the part numbers on your order due to using different names for marketing and warehouse storage – we can then arrange for the correct item to be delivered whilst the unwanted item is collected and brought back to us.

A refund or replacement can only be processed once we have received all unwanted items and confirmed any damage.

Faulty items

In the unlikely event of an item becoming faulty, please view our guarantee policies in our terms and conditions.

If your item is within our warranty, we will be able to collect it to either repair or replace, however this can only be done once we have confirmed the fault. If you urgently need the item returned, we advise placing a new order and await the refund for the faulty item.

Items that cannot be cancelled or returned

Under Consumer Contract Regulations, customers have the right to cancel any order for any item bought through The Ramp People on this website including a full refund. Unfortunately, these regulations do not apply to the following circumstances;

• Items that are collected from our premises.
• Items with a product description stating: "Built to order or customised."
• Products that are personalised or made to a customer specification.
• Sealed goods that come with health protection or hygiene regulations that have been un-sealed after delivery.
• Returning any products that present a hygiene risk after being used by the recipient.
