Product Questions

Can Mobility Scooters be driven on the road?
In the UK, Class 3 mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs are road-legal and can be driven on the road, as well as on pavements and cycle tracks. Class 2 mobility scooters are restricted to pavements and cycle tracks only and cannot be used on the road. If you purchase a class 3 device and wish to drive it on the road you will need to register with the DVLA.
What is the difference between a Powerchair and Mobility Scooter?
A powerchair is similar to a wheelchair but equipped with a motor, making it easier for users to move around both at home and outdoors. They are designed for individuals with limited upper body strength or those who need full support while seated. Controls are typically located on the armrest for easy access. A mobility scooter is primarily designed for outdoor use and independent travel. They are ideal for people with limited mobility who can walk short distances but need assistance for longer journeys. Mobility scooters usually offer less seating support than powerchairs but are built for comfort and stability over longer distances.
Do you need a driving licence for a mobility scooter?
At The Ramp People our range of mobility scooters and powerchairs are class 2 and cannot be driven on the road; therefore you do not need a driving licence to drive these.
Can Mobility Scooters and Powerchairs be taken on public transport?
Yes, the Mobility Scooters & Powerchairs are highly compact and can be taken on trains, buses and on planes. The Powerchair is air travel safe and offers a lightweight lithium battery with off-board charging
Do mobility scooters and powerchairs need insurance?
In the UK you do not need insurance for a class 2 or class 3 mobility scooter or powered wheelchair however, due to the value of the items it is recommended.
