Heavy Duty Flow Plate

Heavy Duty Directional Flow Plates for Car Parks & Roads

For efficient traffic control, heavy-duty flow plates provide a smart, low-maintenance solution for enforcing one-way vehicle movement. Ideal for private car parks, industrial sites, or residential estates, these directional flow plates offer a dependable and secure method to slow vehicles and ensure proper traffic direction—without the need for manual supervision or costly automated systems. Various flow plates also can be locked down when required, for example to allow vehicles to travel in both directions when needed.

What are flow plates?

Flow plates are embedded into the surface of roads or car parks to regulate the direction of vehicle movement. They permit vehicles to travel smoothly in one direction while physically preventing or discouraging movement in the opposite direction. This makes them perfect for managing one-way traffic—such as preventing vehicles from exiting through an entrance.

Use of Flow Plates

Directional flow plates are versatile tools used across a range of traffic management applications:

  • Car Parks: Control vehicle flow and prevent unauthorised entry, improving both safety and efficiency.
  • Private Roads & Gated Communities: Enforce one-way traffic to reduce confusion and minimise the risk of head-on collisions.
  • Loading Bays & Logistics Hubs: Guide heavy vehicles along designated routes to streamline operations and maintain order.
  • High-Security Areas: Work in tandem with gate systems to prevent unauthorised or wrong-way access into restricted zones.

Flow Plates vs. Speed Bumps

Speed bumps are designed to slow vehicle traffic whilst flow plates are designed to slow vehicle traffic and encourage the flow of one-way traffic. Flow plates are not designed to be used in pedestrianised zones. Flow plates should be used in conjunction with speed bumps. Both speed bumps and flow plates should be used with speed bump warning signs.

How to install flow plates

At The Ramp People, all our surface-mounted flow plates come with pre-drilled fixing points and include fixings suitable for both tarmac and concrete surfaces, as well as a drill bit to assist with installation. For enhanced effectiveness and safety, we recommend using flow plates in conjunction with speed bumps and appropriate warning signage.

When it comes to layout, there are multiple configuration options. Some choose to install flow plates side by side to form a continuous line, while others opt for two staggered rows to better suit their site requirements.

It’s important that vehicles drive over the flow plates in a straight line. For this reason, we advise against installing them near corners or bends in the road.
