Mobility Steps With Handrails: Enhancing Safety
Mobility challenges can impact individuals of all ages—whether due to aging, injury, balance issues, or disability. Simple daily tasks like navigating steps or doorways can become difficult and even pose safety risks. In workplaces, elevated steps may also present significant health and safety concerns.
To make access safer, The Ramp People have added more half steps. We now offer Mobility Steps with Handrails. These steps provide better stability for people entering homes, offices, and other buildings.
What Are Mobility Steps With Handrails?
Mobility steps, also called half steps or safety stools, help reduce the height between the ground and a step or doorway. This makes it easier and safer for users to enter. These steps can be adjusted in height to fit individual needs. For extra support, single and double handrails are available. This improves safety and encourages greater independence.
Mobility steps are available in a range of sizes. The standard safety steps are made for people walking onto them. The large steps are better for those using walkers and walking sticks. For those using a rollator, extra-large half steps are normally recommended.
Half steps are used in many places. These include private homes, care homes, offices, and commercial spaces. Their height adjustable metal design makes them a practical solution for improving accessibility. More businesses are taking small steps to prevent trips and falls at work. This helps create safer environments and improve health and safety practices.
Why Are Handrails Beneficial?
Handrails can make a difference to many users for:
- Stability: Provide additional support whilst going up or down the step, in turn enhancing safety
- Confidence: Users generally feel more secure when holdiing onto a handrail
- Reduction of falls: Reduce the risk of trips and falls
When purchasing a metal step with handrails, please consider if your door opens inwards or outwards. If your door opens outwards over the step one handrail is likely to be preferable to ensure you can easily open and close the door.

What To Consider When Choose A Half Step
- Do you wish to use the half step indoors or outdoors? All of our half steps are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use
- The height you wish to set the half step to. For higher heights, we do have an option of two half steps
- Do you require handrails? Please note, if your door opens outwards, a single handrail is likely to be preferable to ensure the door can still open and close
- Do you wish to fix the step in place?
- Do you wish to move the half step regularly, if so we would suggest a lightweight half step such as our adjustable half step with a PGR surface
- Who will be using the half step? For walking the standard size is generally suitable. For those using a walking stick we would suggest a standard or large size. For walkers a large step is recommended whilst for rollators the extra large half step should be used
